You need to show ID to buy groceries, but not to vote? Duh. Raise the minimum wage, then prices go up to compensate. Why can’t politicians understand that?
Except that when wages increase, prices go up to match the change in profit the seller loses. So there is no net gain to us.
But- increase in wages pushes your income taxes into the next tax bracket, you pay the higher taxes. You lose because your take home after taxes is less, and the purchasing power has gone down. stores / restaurant owners increase prices to counter increase in employee wages. US gov now gets more taxes and that $3.00 burger now cost $5.25 and that 2.89 doz of eggs costs 5.79. We lost buying power even though our wages went up.
We had a 0.10 cents / hour increase and took home less money, the state and federal taxes increased.
Our eggs are $1.99 for 18 this week, guess I don’t live in NYC. We sold our eggs for 0.25 cents a dozen on the farm.
If you take the price of gas back in 1966 and adjust it for inflation, it would be higher than what we are paying, $3.49 / gallon.
