We can blame our educational system for not teaching economic realities as shown throughout history. Many of us recall studying the Siren Call of Socialism and the reasons it has never succeeded. It seems there has been deliberate absence in education, in the last 40 years, of instruction on the economics of governing systems.
It used to be well understood Socialism fails when there is no longer money to take from citizens.
Seems those days are gone. Many are now listening to the Siren Call without understanding its dangers.
