They should get jail time and make them pay for every meal that they eat while incarcerated! The system should also charge them with child abuse, endangering a child, for teaching the minors that this behavior is OK! The next generation will be doing the same thing, it’s a “learned” trait.
Dress code, entrance fee to be applied to final cost, pay as you go. Do all three. Posted notice – cameras recording. Dine and dash customers will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Exactly, if all restaurants would change their policy to charge people at the time the order is placed, before food is even served, it would prevent this almost immediately.
There should be no problem charging that way since you would have paid anyway after the meal.

Parking lot cameras all over, and signs of warnings for dine and dashers. License plates as they leave or leave car keys in deposits? Or valid photo ID until they leave, after they pay.
Smart restaurants make you order in advance by tablet and paying first before the food order goes to the kitchen. The wait staff then brings it out and fulfills drinks, refills, condiments, etc. Lots of Asian restaurants do this — for efficiency and also to curb classless morons that dine and dash.
I have no problem with placing my order, then paying at that time before the order goes to the kitchen. Just like placing an order to be picked up, you pay over the phone.
Restaurants should charge people for the total of the bill at the time the food is ordered. Once the bill is paid then the order is put in to prepare the meal. This would prevent dine and dash almost immediately. This should become common everywhere to avoid situations like this. After the food is served the customer doesn’t need to wait for the bill and can leave a tip at the table. If they want to order more (such as dessert, etc…) they can order it when the wait staff checks in with them, again paying at the time of ordering.
There should be no problem charging that way since you would have paid for your meal anyway. It’s just done more effectively to avoid the situation and would make the dining experience for all diners and staff much more pleasant.
How about putting up a “wall of shame” with people who skip out and putting it where EVERYONE can see it?
