The A-10 Warthog was being retired by the Airforce just before Desert Storm. The Army had said it would keep them and was getting ready to train pilots to fly them. The Airforce was going to do a two year transition to train Army maintenance personnel. THEN Desert Storm happened! Suddenly the Airforce decided to keep them. The Airforce loves the wild blue yonder aircraft, but supporting the Army is below them. There is nothing the Army likes to hear more than the sound of the 30mm Gatling run in support of ground operations.
