We are not suffering from a housing shortage. We are suffering from an affordable housing shortage. You could build a billion homes but if no one can afford them it won’t make a difference.
This is bringing the concept of a village back.
As long as it doesn’t house illegal aliens, this is a great concept. We had a shopping mall that changed owners multiple times and it finally closed and sat vacant. It turned out that Amazon bought out the mall stores one at a time. They razed the buildings to the ground and repaved the decrepit parking lot. It’s now an Amazon distribution center. They built an apartment complex close by for Amazon employees. I don’t know if it’s free housing for the employees or they can rent for a decent price. I imagine it’s the latter. It did bring employment to the area. I don’t know anyone who works for Amazon to ask the details. The good thing is that if I order common items from Amazon, many times it’s delivered the same day, if not the next day. Lots to do with abandoned malls.
Retired from retail construction in major malls–suggested this in 2009–glad to see it finally happening
