As someone with a schizophrenic brother, I sympathize with the family of the deceased, and know I would be devastated if that happened to mine. However, I have to put myself in the shoes of the bystanders. They have no idea what the individual is capable of, and given the history of violence (and murders) on NY subways, many people are no longer going to stand by and wait for something to happen to them. We need to help get our mentally ill off the street, but we must also increase police presence so people like these subway riders don’t have to take defensive matters into their own hands.
Don’t care what his skin color was, don’t care about his MH issues….a threat is a threat. Neutralize the threat and carry on. The excuses and this BS in general need to end. Good job, brother.
