So, this one time I was in my late teens and was working for the National Power Company here in Iceland, we got a call from an old farmer, asking for help save all his hey from his fields before it started raining. Me and about twenty other teenagers went to his farm, and we were there all day, picking up bales of hey, loading them on a wagon pulled by a 100 year old tracktor, driving it to his barn, and then arranging them all in there like we were playing a strange game of Tetris.
When we were about half-way done, the farmers wife call on us for a lunch break. She had made a feast of home-made cooking for us, buttered bread with eggs and vegetables, waffles and pancakes with jam and cream, cakes, donoughts, etc. All washed down with raw milk straight from the cow, of hot coca or coffee.
After eating all that I felt like I could take on the whole world!We went back out and several hours later we had actually managed to clear every field that old farmer had, saved all his hey from getting rained on. Now, I was tired and sweaty from working in the summer sun all day, but I have rarely felt as happy and fulfilled as I did at the end of that day. I felt like I had actually made a difference, and achieved something!
