On Friday morning, another one of Joe Biden’s supporters took to social media and celebrated the news that President Donald Trump had tested positive for the coronavirus. Last time, it was Michael Moore, but this time, it’s the Democratic nominee for Agriculture Commissioner in North Carolina, Jenna Wadsworth.

“On a scale of one to 10, is this your favorite or most favorite October surprise in the history of electoral politics?” Wadsworth asked her followers. “For me personally, I think it ranks pretty high up there.”

Wadsworth tweeted, “Got that big OCTOBER SURPRISE energy up in here tonight” including the hashtags: #TrumpHasCovid #TrumpCovid #TrumpHasCorona #DonaldTrump #COVID19 #VOTE #VoteHimOut #Election2020.

According to WRAL, the video was posted at 3 AM, but it was deleted around 11:30 AM after it caught the attention of the North Carolina politicians. Although Wadsworth had probably hoped to delete her mistake, Republicans had already archived the video.

“This is beyond disgusting and deserves universal condemnation,” Republican US Senator Thom Tillis said on his own Twitter account.

According to Wadsworth, her words were misinterpreted. “The purpose of the video was not to celebrate the President testing positive; it was a reaction to such a game-changing event occurring a month before the election,” Wadsworth said in her statement.

“I would never wish harm on anyone with this illness,” she said. “My commentary was on the irony of the President contracting the virus after not taking it seriously enough.”

Wadsworth didn’t get the reaction she had hoped. Clay Aiken, who had starred on the 2003 season of American Idol and ran as a Democrat for Congress in 2014, reacted to her explanation.

“@jennawadsworth should do more than accuse the ‘other side’ of twisting her words,” Aiken wrote on Twitter. “Own up to a lapse in judgement and promise to do better.”

According to the state Democratic Party, the video was “not appropriate.”

“We join Vice President Biden in sending our best wishes to the Trump family for a quick recovery,” a spokesman for the party had said through email.
