Thursday night’s debate between Portland mayoral candidates sported incumbent Mayor Ted Wheeler and contender Sarah Iannarone.

When asked by debate moderator and KGW-TV anchor Laural Porter if she is an Antifa and how she would handle the protests as a mayor, Iannarone referenced Biden’s statement from the first presidential debate.

“I love that Joe Biden answered this question before me because being opposed to fascism in 2020 is not something to be embarrassed about,” Iannarone responded.

The far-left Portland mayoral contender praised Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden’s statement, “Antifa’s an idea, not an organization.”

Iannarone admitted having a bumper sticker that says #EverydayAntifascist. She claims to have tried normalizing “peaceful responses” to white nationalism through organizing in her community.

The mayoral candidate said to have organized a menstrual product drive for her neighbors in the women’s center when the Proud Boys were in town.

“Because the answer toxic masculinity is an inclusive, pluralist society where people of all backgrounds feel welcome,” she continued.

However, the anchor Porter seemingly wasn’t satisfied with the vague answer.

Porter then interrupted her and asked again if she is Antifa. The leading candidate responded, “Antifa is not anything more than an idea,” as she referred to Joe Biden’s earlier statement. For her, Antifa is someone “opposing anti-fascism.”

Iannarone claims to “strongly oppose anti-fascism.”

In the previous year, Iannarone self-declared to be Antifa.

During the mayoral debate, a Portland resident asked her what she would do about the “dangerous and violent” riots rampaging the city night after night.

However, Iannarone dodged the question about the protesters and instead said she would hold the police force accountable for the demonstrations.

“We need equal enforcement of the law regardless of who is engaging in criminal activity,” she began.

Iannarone said that the police officials would be held accountable when they break the law and procedure. She claims to build well-equipped police enforcing the law without racial bias.

“I condemn violence in all forms,” the mayoral candidate added. “But we must know that the answer to protests about police brutality cannot be increased police brutality.”
