On Tuesday, during President Donald Trump’s last full day in office, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi accused him of being an “accessory” to “murder.” Although the attack on the US Capitol had been planned for days before Trump’s speech, House Democrats still impeached him by saying that his speech had “instigated that insurrection.”

“If you’re Donald Trump talking to these people, they believe it. And they used his words to come here,” Pelosi said during an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday. “When we talk about did any of our colleagues [House Republicans] collaborate, well, that remains to be seen. We have to get the evidence of that, and if they did, they would be accessories to the crime. And the crime, in some cases, was murder.”

“And this president is an accessory to that crime because he instigated that insurrection that caused those deaths and this destruction,” Pelosi charged.

Trump had every right to challenge the election, especially after evidence of the widespread election fraud surfaced. Although he should not have said some of the things he did during the Capitol riots, he has not failed to condemn the rioters. He also promised a peaceful transition of power. He left the White House on Wednesday before Biden was sworn into office.

When Trump spoke to the crowd on January 6, he did not tell his supporters to riot, to attack the Capitol, or to engage in acts of destruction, let alone murder.

Although Trump had indeed fanned the flames of unrest after the election, claiming that he had won the election “by a landslide” and encouraging Mike Pence to reject the Electoral College votes from certain states

Despite Trump’s claims regarding the election inspiring the protest that turned into a riot, the Democrats should think twice before saying such things that they cannot prove.

After all, following George Floyd’s horrific death, the Democrats had repeatedly told the narrative that America is filled with “systemic racism.” At least 26 Americans died in the Black Lives Matter protests that turned into riots, and most of them were black.

President Trump did make many mistakes as he challenged the election results, especially when it came to pressuring Mike Pence before January 6. However, he did not “incite an insurrection,” nor was he an “accessory” to “murder.”
