House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suddenly reverses course after months of declining dozens of Republican-proposed aid packages for Americans suffering in the pandemic.

Last winter, Congress approved three packages for individuals and businesses, amounting to trillion dollars. However, the White House thought more help was needed.

Member of Congress then indicated an agreement on a bill about $1 to aid state and local governments and businesses. The money would also provide modest help for the unemployed. It would be a compromise between Pelosi’s proposal of $3 trillion and Republican’s $500 billion proposals.

When asked why Pelosi now willingly agrees to a smaller package, the House Speaker said, “That’s OK now because we have a new president.”

Pelosi initially wanted billion dollars to bail out poorly run local and state governments suffering problems that were already faced even before the pandemic. For instance, Republicans were hesitant to make North Dakota taxpayers bail out California cities.

The House Speaker then rejected several proposals in helping small business owners and individuals last summer and fall.

Pelosi explained her change of heart on Friday, saying, “Perhaps you missed what I said earlier. Joe Biden committed to ending and crushing the virus and having a builder better America initiative. Build back better. A vaccine. Answer to our prayers. An answer to our prayers. Of 95% effectiveness in terms of Pfizer and Moderna and there may be others, uh, coming forward.”

“That makes, that is a total game-changer a new president and a vaccine,” said the House Speaker.

Pelosi also tried explaining her priorities by saying that it’s OK now because of a new president. She claims the new president recognizes the need for science to stop the coronavirus and understands the working families’ need of having money in their pockets.

In contrast to Pelosi’s statement, Trump cut off red tape and crafted a public-private partnership that led to several vaccines in record time. Some of the developed vaccines could be available as early as before the year ends.

The Associated Press also reported that Pelosi was “optimistic” on a “burst of legislative action to reverse months of frustration on pandemic relief.”
