On Monday, Georgia officially cast their 16 electoral votes for Joe Biden, but the Republicans are determined to fight until the very end.
“I’m pleased to announce that Joseph R. Biden has received 16 votes for president of the United States,” said Stacey Abrams as she announced the vote.
According to the GOP electors, “The contest of the election is ongoing.”
“They’re still playing through the legal cases, and the president has every right to do that,” one GOP official said. “But I don’t see it changing the national outcome. At this point, it’s more about safeguarding the Jan. 5 runoffs & looking forward.”
A GOP elector added that they were “basically, checking legal boxes if something should come of the lawsuits.”
Brad Carver, one of the GOP electors, said, “The presidential election has been contested in Georgia. To preserve our legal rights, we must elect a slate of presidential electors.”
Trump adviser Stephen Miller said on Fox News, “The only date in the constitution is Jan 20, so we have more than enough time to right the wrong of this fraudulent election result and certify Donald Trump as the winner of the election.”
“As we speak today, an alternate slate of electors in the contested states are going to vote, and we’re going to send those results up to the congress,” he added. “This will ensure that all of our legal remedies will remain open.”
“That means that if we win these cases in the courts, that we can direct that the alternate slate of electors will be certified,” Miller said.
