A new report says poll workers allegedly illegally altered thousands of Wisconsin mail-in ballots.
According to Breitbart News, Wisconsin law states that a witness needs to sign his or her name and address on an absentee ballot. If the ballot has a do not contain the witness’s address, it would be disallowed and returned to the voters so that the witness can supply the missing information.
Dan O’Donnell Show reported state sources claim that “clerks and vote counters” in Wisconsin forged the witness’ information. The show further reported the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) advised poll workers not to write-in witnesses’ information yet disobeyed instructions.
The law states that the ballots become invalid if tampered. Retired Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman said, “The statute is very, very clear. If an absentee ballot does not have a witness address on it, it’s not valid. That ballot is not valid.”
O’Donnell said, “The WEC clearly sent instructions to voters that the witness must sign and provide a full address in the Certification of Witness section. The WEC also warned that the ballot would not be counted if any of the required information is missing.
However, additional guidance on the absentee ballots was sent to clerks in October. The guidance instructed the clerks that they could fill in the witness’ address portion of the mail-in ballots to avoid invalidation.
“Please note that the clerk should attempt to resolve any missing witness address information prior to Election Day if possible, and this can be done through reliable information (personal knowledge, voter registration information, through a phone call with the voter or witness),” the Wisconsin Elections Commission wrote.
The witness does not need to be in the polling station to add a missing address.
For this reason, Judge Gableman says the conflicting directive “turned the statute on its head.”
“In defiance of and direct contradiction to the statute, the Wisconsin Elections Commission gave guidance–that is, cover–to all 72 county clerks and turned the statute on his head,” the judge proclaimed.
The commission is aware of the confusion brought by the new directive. The WEC apparently advised clerks to use red ink in writing the addresses for easier checking during a recount.
According to O’Donnell, around thousands of witness addresses were tampered, invalidating the ballots.
President Trump has called for a recount on the state’s vote while his campaign currently investigates the scale of the irregularities.
