On Monday, New York governor Andrew Cuomo criticized Pfizer’s announcement on the early release of coronavirus vaccine primarily because Trump is still the incumbent president.
Certainly “bad news” for the left-wing.
BioNTech and Pfizer revealed that the vaccine was 90 percent effective according to preliminary data. The pharmaceutical giants claimed they could request emergency approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by month-end.
However, Governor Cuomo has other plans for the vaccine. He lamented that the vaccine distribution would be spearheaded by the Trump administration.
The governor’s popularity soared in March when NYC went into lockdown due to surging cases during the pandemic. Polls show that state residents continuously approve of Cuomo’s handling of the pandemic.
Cuomo shared his sentiments to Good Morning America.
“The good news is the Pfizer tests look good, and we’ll have a vaccine shortly. The bad news is that it’s about two months before Joe Biden takes over, and that means this administration is going to be implementing a vaccine plan,” Cuomo said to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.
Cuomo added that the present administration had learned nothing from the pandemic, and its vaccination plan would be flawed.
According to the governor, the Trump administration’s plan would be ineffective because the implementation is through the private sector.
“They’re going to take this vaccine, and they’re going to go through the private mechanism. Through hospitals, through drug market chains, etc. That’s going to be slow, and that’s going to bypass the communities that we call health care deserts,” Cuomo said.
“If you don’t have a Rite Aid or a CVS, then you’re in trouble, and that’s what happened the first time with COVID.”
Gov. Cuomo earlier said that a vaccine approved by the FDA under the Trump administration is dubious.
COVID-19 has taken staggering 33,314 lives in NYC – significantly more than in any other states since the onslaught of the pandemic. Roughly 3 percent of the city’s population caught the coronavirus.
