On Friday, president-elect Joe Biden appealed to voters and supporters to fun his administration’s transition into the office. Of course, unsurprisingly, Twitter users’ response was not what Biden was hoping for. Like many Twitter users, he received backlash made it clear that they were not doing well enough to “chip in.”

“Here’s the deal,” Biden tweeted. “Because President Trump refuses to concede and is delaying the transition, we have to fund it ourselves and need your help,” as he asked supporters to “chip in.”

Twitter users made it clear that they were definitely not willing to “chip in,” and they shared their ideas about how Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris could fund their transition, such as “putting a sweater on instead of turning up the heat.”

Some people who responded were amused, but most were just annoyed that the president-elect of the world’s wealthiest nation needs to appeal to the citizens to fund his administration’s transition.

One Twitter user replied, saying, “We already fund it with taxes.”

Gravel Institute responded to Biden’s plea by telling him to “ask one of the 186 billionaires who funded your campaign instead of people who can’t afford rent this month.”

Another Twitter user responded by asking about the $1 billion that Biden raised. “Is it all gone?” she asked.

Biden and his administration may need money to fund their transition, but I think there are better ways than asking the struggling Americans to “chip in.”
